Even though land surveying is something that should be left to the professionals, having an understanding of at least the fundamentals of surveying can be a great help when you have to hire a land surveyor for your particular land development project. You would be better able to understand any issues that the surveyor might want to discuss with you. You would also have a better understanding of the surveying services for which you are paying.

The following are two land surveying books that I would recommend.

1) Surveying: Principles and Applications by Barry Kavanagh and Tom Mastin

This a good book to keep as a reference for those with any interest in land surveying.

Check out current pricing on Amazon.

2) Construction Surveying and Layout by Wesley G. Crawford

This is another good book that can be used as a reference that includes many illustrations and examples of survey calculations.

Check out current pricing on Amazon.
